where can i rent out heavy duty crimpers?
I want to change the battery terminals on my car. I need one of those large heavy duty crimpers that can crimp like 4 gauge terminals (I think). Does anyone know where I can rent one?
Most of the auto parts stores that sell bulk cable will have a way to crimp these wires. Many of the larger gage crimpers use two plates in a vise to crimp. There is another unit that is basically a punch. You put the terminal in it and then strike the punch with a hammer. Car audio shops would also have a crimper large enough to handel 4 gage wiring. Soldering and heat shrink tubing is another option. Getting the pre made battery cables is the best option unless you need 4 gage for current draw. Diesel shops are another good place to check as they use large gage wiring on semi tractor trailers. The bolt together battery terminals are problematic at best and should be avoided if possible.
