I have recently been brushing my teeth with an electric toothbrush with soft bristles, flossing, using a gum stimulator, and using mouthwash. I just noticed a small space in between my two front teeth on last Wednesday that I never noticed before. The only reason why I feel it now is because I feel it when I speak and either air or saliva goes through it.

I went to the dentist for a cleaning today and he said that it wasn't big enough to use bonding for it and that it would look bad and that I should just get used to it. I have no gum disease and the pockets in my teeth are less than 3 mm. My concern wasn't really with how it looks but more because it is awkward when I speak now and it hasn't been a problem weeks ago.

Will the gum (I believe it's called interdental or gingivia papilla) grow or move to fill in the missing space without surgery? Is there anything that can be done surgically to correct this?

What could have caused this space in so short a time?
